Striking Vintage Vogue Card with Well Scripted Sentiment

Uber-fast post tonight.  I am heading out to my monthly book club gathering in 10 minutes, and just realized that I hadn't posted anything this weekend!

This card was created by fellow demonstrator Eileen McAulliffe, and she used the always popular Pretty in Pink and Basic Black combination.

This is a very quick card to create, featuring the Vintage Vogue & Well Scripted stamp sets, with minimal fuss from the Pretty in Pink striped grosgrain ribbon.  I love it!

I'm off to pick book club books for the next 6 months, and read!

Dry Embossing with the Big Shot and some ink

Today's card is the second one completed at this month's Stamp Club.  It is a really easy card to create, but it's got a bit of a WOW factor to it because people can't figure out how to create the embossed piece on the front.  Even my husband thought it was cool!  I CASE'd the card from one created by Dawn Olchefske, and I really like the way that it turned out.  I'm going to make some more, using different colours of paper - just for fun.

This card uses only two colours of paper (Rich Razzleberry & Whisper White) and one colour of ink (Rich Razzleberry).  The sentiment comes from the Enjoy Every Moment stamp set, and it fits perfectly within the Modern Label punch.  

The Rich Razzleberry piece that sits on top of the scalloped square was embossed using the Backgrounds 1 Texturz plates and the Big Shot.

Embossing on this card?  Definitely the polka dots. They were created using Rich Razzleberry ink, and the Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Folder (Big Shot).

What's the one Stampin' Up! item that I just can't live without...

Well, there are actually two items.  My 1-3/8" and 1-1/4" circle punches.  I LOVE all of my punches, but these two are must-haves in any stamper's collection.  The images that they punch nest perfectly, and both can be used in conjunction with many of Stampin' Up!'s other punches as well as many of their stamped images.  Each punch is $22.95, but they are a terrific investment.  With loving care they will last you for years!

A Heart of Sparkles

Valentine's Day is fast approaching.  This is a quick, sparkly project that can be easily put together for someone special - and it hides chocolate!  It was the last embossing project completed by my Stamp Club this month, and in a couple of cases, the chocolate never made it inside the folder!

Since it is Valentine's Day, there is lots of red on this folder - Real Red.  The heart images all come from I (Heart) Hearts - don't forget that each purchase of this set before February 28th will result in $2 being donated to the American Red Cross for Haitian relief.

The glitter on the sparkly heart is adhered using a Heat Tool and Heat & Stick Powder.  If you've never tried this method of adhering glitter to a project, you are missing out.  It is an excellent way to add a shot of bling, and the glitter really sticks!

3 Things they won't teach you at Michael's (or any other big craft chain store)

Lots of people troll through the aisles of the big craft stores, looking at all of the products available for scrapbooking, cardmaking and stamping.  I know this.  I've done this!  I still do this.  Not often anymore, but my neighbours will tell you that I always enjoy a trip to the big M. 

Today's question is simply this:  Do you know how to use the products that you see on their shelves?  It's great to pick something up with a 40% off coupon (simply because it's 40% off!), but when you bring the item home, do you actually use it.  No?  That's brings us to the title of this post:  3 things that they won't teach you at the big M (or any other big chain store).

1.  The won't teach you all of the uses of a Versamark inkpad.  Most people don't know what ANY of the uses of a Versamark inkpad are!

2.  You won't learn about what each of the different types of adhesive can hold, and the various methods to adhere glitter to a project.  I know this because when I was in the checkout line at one of the local big M stores before Christmas, there was a customer who was asking about two different adhesives, and glitter.  The employee couldn't answer the question.  I could (and did).

3.  Classes on brayer techniques are non-existent.  There are dozens of ways to use a brayer, all of which add an interesting twist to a card.  We're doing three of them at stamp club in February (let me know if you'd like to come!).

Monochromatic Vintage Friends

The theme at this month's stamp club was embossing.  We did three projects, using a form of embossing on each.  The first project was the card below.  We used the Vintage Vogue stamp set, some embossing, and a few sponges to create this pretty card.

Embossing on this card came on the background piece that was stamped with the vines from the set.  We randomly stamped the image all over a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using Versamark ink.  The image was then embossed using clear embossing powder and our Heat Tool.  

Ink was then rubbed over the embossed image, with the excess removed using a paper towel.  The result is a soft image that can be used for backgrounds on both cards and scrapbook pages.

I like the effect of sponging on the edges of paper, but generally don't add it to my cards.  This time I actually went a little bit overboard and sponged everything!  I also added a fun ribbon technique to attach the flower to the card.

4-Squared Vintage Vogue

Vintage Vogue is truly showing itself to be a very versatile set.  There are more samples from this set on Splitcoaststampers than any other stamp set from the Occasions Mini Catalogue.  Today's card sample is courtesy of Sofi Daniels, another talented demonstrator in my stamping group.

Sofi has embossed the vines from the stamp set using black embossing powder.  It helps to give the images a very defined and sharp look against the colours that she used on this square card.  The sentiment is also from this set.  I love this look!

I (Heart) Hearts

As you know, Stampin' Up! is donating $2 from each I (Heart) Hearts stamp set sold before February 28th to the Red Cross Haitian Relief fund.  Here is a card that Colleen Weddell created, using the stamps from the set.  It's super easy to create, with some wonderful spring colours.
