Out with the Old.....

Today is our last day with the current catalogue.  I'd love to say that it's a sad day, but it's not!  Because tomorrow is the release of our new 2009 - 2010 Idea Book and Catalogue!

Before we go though... here's one last sample of a card that uses 2 retiring sets.  I originally came up with this card last summer, as a possible workshop card.  Stitched Exotics and Hugs and Wishes are the two sets used on the card, and the background was stamped using Stitched, a background stamp that was retired with the last catalogue.  The colour combo was an experiment - Chocolate Chip, Tangerine Tango & So Saffron.

Now that you've had one last taste of the "old", make sure that you come back tomorrow afternoon to see a taste of the "new"!

Are you anxious to see the new In Colours? It's Open House Time!

The new catalogue comes out on Wednesday, but I've got the new In Colour paper, inks, ribbon and markers NOW!  I've also got a few other goodies to share... stamps, Designer Series Paper, punches...

To help you decide that the new crop of In Colours are just as gorgeous as I think they are, I am having an Open House next Monday, July 6th to introduce them!

I will have copies of the new  2009-2010 Idea Book and Catalogue available, along with copies of past catalogues (great for card ideas!).

Each attendee will also have the opportunity to create their own hand-stamped card, using some fun new products!  Here's a sneak peek of Monday's project.
 
I will also have lots of card, 3-D, and altered item samples on hand, as well as samples of some of Stampin' Up!'s amazing products.

If you bring a friend that I've never met before, I'll give you a $5 gift certificate that can be used on your next order. 

Class samples for upcoming classes will be on display, and information on my "New and Improved" stamp club will also be available.

A traditional acetate card, with a small twist

Today's acetate project is the first card that we completed at last week's stamp club.  It is a traditional style card, one which most people think of when they here "acetate card".

There are a few retiring items on this card, with one completely new element:

The birds have been stamped on the acetate using white Staz-on ink.  This inkpad needs to be reinked each time you use it, so when purchased it comes with a reinker.  It's also super sticky, and needs to be cleaned as soon are you're finished with it!

Zoofari is the set that the birds come from.  It is also a retiring stamp set, and will disappear from the catalogue next week.  I stamped the birds in black on Whisper White cardstock, and coloured them in using blender pens.

Now... the sentiment is new.  So new that you haven't seen it yet!  This stamp is from the new set Teeny Weeny Wishes.  Watch for it!

I mentioned a twist... one of the sets of birds has been stamped on the inside of the card!  When you pull the card out of the envelope, it looks like there is a line of birds.  But... once you open it, you'll see that there is one set that still appears, just below whatever the sender writes on the inside of the card. 

Cool eh?

Shaking up some birthday cards - complete with piranhas!

This month was acetate month at stamp club.  We used acetate on three different projects, in three different ways. 

I am a bit sad that the Just Beachy stamp set isn't being carried over to the new catalogue.  I had to use him at stamp club one last time before he gets relegated to the "retired stamp set" bin in my office.  So, we made shaker cards!! 

This card is a snap to make, once you know the "tricks".  We started out with some wild Tangerine Tango cardstock, added some Bella Rose DSP and some Tangerine Tango striped grosgrain ribbon.  The fish was stamped using Kiwi Kiss Classic ink, and was then punched out using the 1 3/4" circle punch.  The sentiment (from another retiring set - Hugs and Wishes) was stamped using Tangerine Tango ink.  It looks a bit washed out in the photo, but it's darker on the card.

To make the actual shaker box, I sorta punched out a circle from the acetate using my 1 3/4" circle punch.  I say sorta because the punch wouldn't completely go through the acetate.  I punched as much as I could, and then cut the rest out by hand.  The circle doesn't have to be perfect.  The Tangerine Tango frame was created by punching a circle using the 1 1/4" circle punch.  I then centred the hole inside the 1 3/4" circle punch, and punched again.  Voila!  Instant frame.  The acetate was then glued to this.

Tip alert:  To make the "box" for the beads, use the long strips of Stampin' Dimensionals that you find on the sides of the sheets.  Cut off 3-4 bumps' worth, and then carefully lay them on the acetate, under the frame. 

Once you have the entire frame completed, pull off the paper from the dimensionals, and then add some  beads to the box.  Place the fish on top, image side down (so that it's resting against the microbeads), and  you're done. 

Try this technique, and then e-mail photos of your cards to me.  I'd love to see your projects!

Yea! The new catalogues have arrived!!!

Yes, you read that right.  The new 2009/2010 Idea Book & Catalogue has arrived!!!  I have a whole whack of them in my hallway, sitting in boxes, ready to head out the door.

There are some outstanding new stamp sets, amazing accessories, and the new In Colours are gorgeous!  They are very different from the current crop of In Colour papers and inks, and I'm certain that you'll be able to find something that you'll just "have" to have.

Somewhere, over the Rainbow

I received a belated birthday card this morning from a fellow demonstrator.  It's way too cute!!!  Colleen was inspired by this month's card club acetate techniques, and she created a shaker card that would do Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz proud.

She used a bunch of fun stuff on this card.  The stamp set is Humour in High Heels, the ribbon slide is from the Styled Silver Hodpodge Hardware kit, the ribbon is 5/8" Real Red grosgrain ribbon, and the chipboard came from On Board Essentials.  Inside the shaker is Dazzling Diamonds.

Very sparkly, and just perfect for a birthday card.  Thanks Colleen!

Tonight is "finish the teacher's thank you cards" night combined with "organizing my hubby's hockey stuff" night.  Let's see which one has more time devoted to it :)

Happy (belated) Father's Day!

Things have been in a bit of a turmoil around here for the past couple of weeks.  It's cut into my stamping time, but I did manage to stamp something for my husband before the day was through.  I recently borrowed the Under the Stars stamp set from my friend Corrie, and used it to create this rather unusual Father's Day card. 

It does actually say Happy Father's Day on the inside.  Really!

Tonight was stamp club night, and I've been trying to finish my Teacher Gifts before the end of the week (aka the end of the school year!), so I have lots of good fodder for my blog.  I'll try and post something each day this week - wish me luck!

Father's Day is just around the corner...

In my house, things tend to get done at the last minute, instead of days in advance.  Not this year!  Our Father's Day card is done.  Or, at least one of them is :)  I still have a couple of kids to chase, to make their cards.  Anyhow, this is the card that my Mom & Me kids stamped, and that one of my own kids will give to dad.  The other two cards remain a mystery at this point...

We used the Sanded background stamp on the card base, as well as Wonderful Favourites for part of the sentiment.  The letters that spell "dad" come from the retired Headline alphabet set, one set that I can't bear to part with.  It's awesome in scrapbooking!

If my kids actually create a couple of additional cards, I'll post them for you.  They'll be interesting though...  lots of punches, probably some crabby friends from Crab & Company, and some rather unique colours!
