2 more Stamp-A-Stack cards

Here are two more of the cards that our guests made during this past weekend's Stamp-a-stack.  These cards were designed by Corrie Birnbaum, and were loads of fun to make.

First up is the swirly butterfly card.  The stamps used on this card came from Baroque Motifs, Flight of the Butterfly, and En Francais.  Some Kiwi Kiss ribbon finishes it off nicely.

Up next is the Fishy card.  This is perfect for summer birthdays!!  The fish come from the set Just Beachy, and the wheel used across the card is Lazy Days, both from the Occasions Mini Catalogue.  The Happy Birthday stamp comes from the set All Holidays.

Another fun technique to try... crayon resist!

If you haven't tried stamping using crayon resist, you really should try it sometime.  It's super easy, and has some good WOW factor associated with it.  This card is one that I saw at a recent meeting I went to.  The designer used the Embrace Life and Wonderful Favourites stamp sets, some glossy cardstock, crayons, and matching ink/cardstock.

Stamping & Stacking Part II

Thanks again to everyone that came to the Stamp-a-stack yesterday afternoon.  Don't forget to mark the date for the Christmas Stamp-a-stack on your calendar - November 7th, at the Winchester Golf Club again.

Here are some photos of yesterday's festivities:

The first is of our sample display.  We always try to showcase projects that we haven't had at previous gatherings, and we had some great cards and 3-D samples on hand for people to look at.

Jen and Monique (a first time participant) had a great time stamping their cards. 

We had a card contest for the first time at one of our events.  We asked our customers to come in with a birthday card, which was then placed on a table.  Guests at the event then voted on their favourite card.  This was the winning card - the guest that created this card won a really nice stamp set!  30 cards were on display on the front table, and all were donated to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.  Thanks to everyone that brought a card.

Tomorrow is supposed to be really nice and warm here.  Woo!  It seems like we go from winter to summer in the blink of an eye.  But... any good Canadian can tell you that there's really only two seasons up here.  Winter and Construction.

Stamping & Stacking Away

Today was our semi-annual Stamp-A-Stack.  It was really warm outside, with lots of sunshine, but everyone came in ready to stamp.  We had a terrific group of ladies, and a terrific complement of cards for them to create.  As it's now quite late, and I'm quite tired after running around all day, I'll post scans of the two cards that I created for the stack.  Tomorrow I'll post some more fun pictures of the afternoon.

My first card is this nice and summery card.  It uses (surprise, surprise) Summer Sun cardstock, along with some Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Whisper White, and Good Morning Sunshine paper.  No birds, but I'm still using Cheep Talk - just the pear this time.

My second card was created using the Sweet Stems, On Your Birthday and Itty Bitty Backgrounds sets.  There are actually two versions of this card, the second uses Not Quite Navy & Baja Breeze cardstock.  As we already had some blue cards at the stack, we went with this one instead which uses Rose Red, Cameo Coral, and Raspberry Tart paper.

Happy Bird-Day to you!

Our last marker based card for this week's stamp club was a watercolour card.  We used the Pun Fun stamp set, some watercolour paper, markers, and Aqua Painters to create a really cute birthday card.

The photo is a bit washed out because of the sunshine, but that's what happens when you wait until the last possible second to actually take the picture! 

The Designer Series Paper (DSP) used on this card is from the Sweet Always collection, and it's been paired up with Pink Pirouette, Regal Rose, and Chocolate Chip paper (all of the colours in the DSP).  Some Regal Rose 5/8" grosgrain ribbon.

Tomorrow will be filled with Stamp-a-stack preparations, but I'll try and post something fun - maybe a picture of all of my stamp-a-stack stuff ready to go!!  Or... you may get another picture of my garden as I'm hoping to spend some more time out there.

Something fun with markers - have you ever tried this before?

As part of this week's "playing with markers" stampy club, we tried some Thumping.  Colleen Weddell, a member of my downline, designed this quick and simple card that has some thumping in it.

We used the Oval All set, and the co-ordinating Scallop  Oval punch on the card.  We have also used some gorgeous Parisian Breeze paper DSP on the card.  It's textured, and has some gorgeous patterning in it.  Thumping is incredibly easy to do, but it gives you the neat multi-coloured effect that you see here.  Let me know if you would like to learn how to do it!  We can set up a class or a workshop, and get to work.

I'm hoping that the sun will shine tomorrow.  It's been raining all week, and it's really hard to take decent photos of cards when it's dull and dreary outside.  This one was scanned.  Tomorrow I'll post the last of this month's stamp club cards.  I scanned it in earlier today, but it doesn't look nearly as nice in the scanned photo as it does in real life.  So, I'll try and photograph it tomorrow.

What on earth is Gradation??

Gradation kind of sounds like something that those big graders do to a road before they lay down asphalt.  Who knows - maybe that's what it's called!  Not in my world!!!  In my world, gradation refers to the process of applying 2+ colours to a stamp using markers, and then blending the colours together to give you a muted, yet colourful effect.  This is the full card that we made at stamp club this week.  It's a fairly simple card, easy to make, yet it shows off the two colours on the stamp quite well.

The stamps on this card come from the Stitched Exotics and the Best Wishes and More sets.  Colours are Ruby Red, Pumpkin Pie, and Whisper White.

Only 4 spaces left!

Our Occasions Stamp-A-Stack is happening this Saturday, and we only have 4 spaces left!  I'm SOOO excited because I love the crop of cards that everyone will be making, and we have tons of fun stuff for everyone!

The cost is $30, which includes all supplies for 12 cards, envelopes, and a super-awesome goodie bag to take home!  We'll also have lots of amazing door prizes to give away.

Start time is 1pm at the Winchester Golf Club in Brooklin.

It's really hard to stamp when...

It's really nice outside!!!  I would love to say that I've done tons of stamping this weekend, but I haven't done a lick.  Instead I've spent oodles of time in my garden.  I do have lots of stamping to do this week though, so I'll start posting photos again as soon as I've stamped some goodies to show you.

In the meantime... here is a picture of my early, early daffodils.  I just planted the bulbs in the fall, so it's giving me great pleasure to see them popping out of the ground.

My new birdy- style Garden Journal

I promise that this will be the last of the birds for awhile.  My scrappy friends were teasing me about my obsession with birds.  They are just SO cute!

Anyhow, now that my garden has finally decided to wake for the season, I need a garden journal.  I have lots, and lots of gardening stuff all over my office, and I'm constantly looking for things, so I made one.  With birds.  Big shock.  BTW, did you know that we only have 2 seasons in Canada - Winter and Construction? 

So, back to my journal...  I have used an On Board Journal for the base of the book.  There are tons of pages in it, the chipboard cover is very thick (no worries about bending it), and there are no lines on the pages, which makes it easier to sketch in. 

Paper choices for the journal include Good Morning Sunshine DSP, Pacific Point, Summer Sun, and Whisper White cardstock.  The Rough Edges Alphabet was used for the title, and some Rhinestone brads add a bit of bling to the project.  I have used the Boho Blossoms and Flower (ret'd) punches for the flowers on the cover.  All of the chipboard is from the On Board So Tweet collection.

I did add a bookmark to my journal - it's been tied to the top spiral ring, and then hangs through the journal to the bottom. 

I'm sleepy tired after spending most of the day outside, so I'm off to do some reading before bed.
